WHAT IS SCOUTING?

Scouting, also known as Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth movement with the aim of supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, so that they may play constructive roles in society.

 

THE PROGRAM

Cub Scouts Pack 610 is a unit in Liên Đoàn Lạc Việt (LDLV), a multi-level scouting unit consisting of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Ventures. LDLV was formed in October 2006 and chartered by Our Lady of La Vang Church.  Pack 610 consists of boys from 6 to 11 year-old, or from 1st to 5th grade.   The Cub Scout program runs year-round and emphasizes involvement between boys, parents, adult leaders.

 

PURPOSE

The Purpose of Cub Scouting is to have fun and learn at the same time. Cub Scouting has the following purposes:

Influence a boy’s character development and spiritual

   growth

 Develop good habits and attitudes of good citizenship

Encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing

   strong in mind and body

 Improve understanding within the family

 Strengthen a boy’s ability to get along with others

 Foster a sense of personal achievement by developing

   new interests and skills

 Provide fun and exciting new things to do

 Show a boy how to be helpful and Do Your Best

 Prepare Cubs to be a Boy Scout

Every year, Pack 610 opens its door to new members. We would like to invite 1st through 5th grade boys and their parents to learn more about our Pack, and all the great things it has to offer.

Whether you or your kids are looking for fun, adventure, friendship, outdoor recreation or leadership skills you will find them all here.

We are recruiting adults and boys who want to learn and grow in positive atmosphere, and families who are enthusiastic about supporting their sons.

Come join the fun with Pack 610 at our Open House on October time frame.

Ø  A Few Highlights For Parents

·   A high percentage of our Cub Scouts attain the highest award of  Arrow of Light.

·   All events are well supervised.

·   Leadership and communication skills are encouraged with role playing and responsibility assignment.

·   Parents are encouraged to attend all activities, summer camp, and except Webelos overnight camp.

·   Pack 610 is a very friendly place where all adults are volunteer.  We welcome parental support and participation.

·   Hazing/bullying is not tolerated.

ACTIVITIES

Cub Scout learns the basics of the Scouting method, based on Cub Scout Promise, and Cub Scout Law.

Primary activities include: advancement, games, sport, woodcraft, project, Pinewood Derby, field trip, picnic, hiking, biking, and camping.

 

RANK

Cub Scouts ranks are dependent upon age or grade level.

Bobcat:  All Cubs regardless of rank (from Tiger to Webelos).  After they earn this, they move on to earn their grade-level rank as follow:

Tiger:  6-7 years old or 1st grade

Wolf:  8 years old or 2nd grade

Bear:  9 years old or 3rd grade

Webelos:  10 to 11 years old or 4th or 5th grade

ADVANCEMENT

Through the Tiger, Wolf, Bear and WEBELOS years your child must work on advancement at home as well as at meetings in order to earn rank badges.  He will need the support of someone at home to help him stay the course. PLEASE support your Scout!

 

CUB SCOUT HANDBOOK

Each boy is required to have an advancement book for his Rank (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos) and it must be brought to all Den meetings so the Scouts and participate in advancement activity.

Catholic Religious Emblem Program

(Optional for Catholic Scouts)

Purpose: To encourage participating scouts to grow stronger in their Catholic Faith.

LIGHT OF CHRIST (Wolf Cub Scouts).This program helps a younger boy develop a personal relationship with Jesus. He comes to see Jesus as a person and his friend.

PARVULI DEI (Webelo I and II Scouts):  Young boys explore a wide range of activities in which they discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their families and parishes.

AD ALTARE DEI (Boy Scouts 7th grade and older).This program studies the Sacraments.  Scouts grow to recognize that sacramental encounters with Christ help them to develop a fuller Christian way of life.

POPE PIUS XII (High School age Boy Scouts & Venturing young men & women):  Participants examine Christian daily life and are challenged to explore church ministries and vocations.  Young adults are encouraged to share their faith with peers through discussion and reflection.

The programs can run from 3 to 6 months depending on the progress of the scouts.

* Each Scout must follow Cub Scout

   uniform format:

   + Blue Cub Scout shirt and pant

   + Webelos have option to wear Boy

    Scout's uniform - khaki shirt and

    green pant

* Council Patch - Silicon Valley Monterey

* World Scout Crest Emblem

* Pack Number 610

* American Flag

* Hat

* Belt

* Neckerchief and slider (provide by

   Liên Đoàn except Webelos)

All other insignia, awards, medals, or patches earn will be provided by Pack 610
